Research

Lines of Research

Line 1 – Animal adaptation to environmental variation

Study of the responses of different animals at various levels of biological organization compared to variations in environmental parameters, such as salinity, oxygen, temperature, radiation, among others.

Line 2 – Biological responses to extreme or pathological conditions

Development of studies for understanding different strategies at various levels of biological organization which allow animals to tolerate or diminish extreme and/or harmful physiological conditions, such as exercise, tissue injuries and carcinogenesis. This line of research also focuses on understanding different mechanisms involved in their preventive and therapeutic processes.

Line 3 – Biological effects of nanomaterials

Study of effects at different levels of biological organization shown by animals when exposed to nanomaterials.

Line 4 – Biological effects of toxic agents

Line of research focused on understanding the effects at different levels of biological organization shown by animals when exposed to organic and inorganic compounds, such as environmental contaminants, natural products and/or toxins, besides strategies to minimize damages caused by such exposure. This line of research also aims to understand the mechanisms of synthesis and/or liberation of natural products and/or toxins.

Line 5 – Integrative physiology

Line of research focused on understanding the operation of nervous, endocrine and neuroendocrine systems, such as reproduction, growth, behavior and metabolism, among others, in different animals.
